Best Hotel Near to Chiang Mai Train Station

Bossotel Chiang Mai is the best place to stay in Chiang Mai if you’re catching the overnight train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai, or vice versa. Conveniently located directly across the road from the Chiang Mai train station it’s a very comfortable and friendly place to stay.

The Bossotel Inn Chiang Mai is also a pick-up point for your Chiang Mai to Bangkok train tickets. You can relax at Bossotel Chiang Mai and then walk across the road to catch your train.

Or if you’re arriving on the Bangkok to Chiang Mai train, you can simply pop across the road to your hotel when you arrive. This means you save yourself the time and hassle of looking around for accommodation, or of travelling to another area of town!

Bossotel has three partner hotels. These are Chiang Mai Bossotel, Bossotel Bangkok and The Elements Resort in Krabi. In this post we’ll share our experience from their Chiang Mai accommodation branch – Bossotel Chiang Mai.

Bossotel Chiang Mai – The Location

As we mentioned, Bossotel is located directly across the road from the Chiang Mai railway station. This makes it an ideal location to chill out before you catch the train to Bangkok or after you’ve just arrived from the night train (Bangkok to Chiang Mai).

Bossotel Chiang Mai is located on the east side of the old town. It took us about 30-40 minutes to walk to the East side of the old town. It’s also super easy to get to the old town by Grab car (usually about 60-80 baht), or in a Tuk Tuk.

The old town is straight down a relatively main road and the trip didn’t take us any longer than 10 minutes. Tuk tuks…well there is no shortage of them. You’ll find several parked at and outside the train station, willing to take you anywhere.

In the immediate area

You can find many of your basic needs very close to Bossotel Chiang Mai. There’s a 7-Eleven pretty much next door, a pharmacy and plenty of local eateries to choose from – either right on your door step, or anywhere in between Bossotel and the old town.

Upper Class Cafe is just a couple of doors along and is open for breakfast and lunch. They offer good coffee, western menu choices, and tasty treats such as the rainbow cake you can see Little Miss enjoying!

Trips we did from Bossotel Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai night bazaar

We stayed at Bossotel Chiang Mai for a week. During that time they organized transport for us to visit the Chiang Mai night bazaar. As one of the “must-see” spots on the edge of the old town, it took us 10 minutes or less to get to the bazaar from Bossotel hotel. The bazaar contains endless stalls of local products for sale. There are many restaurants to choose from, which serve both local and western food. The whole experience is guaranteed to ignite your senses!

Doi Suthep temple

Bossotel Chiang Mai also organized a half-day trip for us to Doi Suthep temple. A minivan picked us up and we went on a drive that wound up and up and up a big hill. We were impressed to see some cyclists on the road and were comparing the hill to some of the cycling hills we know in New Zealand. We decided this one was bigger!

Some of us felt a little carsick on the way up (although the driving was good) so we were grateful to stop along the way and enjoy a wonderful view of the city. We then continued up and over the top of the hill to a local village. This is a good place to shop for local handicrafts, and the locals were very generous letting us try their yummy dried mangoes and strawberries – delicious! Beautiful flowers line the track a little further on and you can stop to check out a cute waterfall.

After the village we head back over the peak of the hill and down to the temple, which was beautiful. You can opt to take the short elevator ride up (about 5 minutes) or walk up, which takes around 10 minutes. All in all, our trip to Doi Suthep was about 40 minutes of driving time each way.

Bossotel Chiang Mai – The Facilities

The Panorama Room

We stayed in one of the panorama rooms at Bossotel Chiang Mai. Located on the top (7th) floor, we got to enjoy a lovely view out from our window. The room was very spacious and lovely and clean. We loved some of the special touches such as the hats and the monkey towel arrangement! We’ve most commonly seen swans and once we saw an elephant towel arrangement in a hotel – but never a monkey until now! We thought it was very cute. What do you think?!

The room was very comfortable with a large bed and a flat sofa attached to the wall for some daytime chilling. Bossotel was doing a few renovations on the room next to us when we were there so we got to have a peep inside and saw a really gorgeous family suite complete with bunk beds and a huge teddy bear. Maybe we’ll stay there next time!

The library, lounge and work area

The ground floor of Bossotel Chiang Mai is very elegantly set up. There is a comfortable outdoor seating area so you can watch the world go by. Or step inside and check out the library room which has a table, comfy couches, a small standing workspace, and table and chairs.

Continue through and you’ll come to an air conditioned area that we found we could do some work from. There’s a large table, a couch and the very comfortable chair that you can see Little Miss sitting on in the featured photo at the top of our blog! You can also plug devices in here.

Bossotel Chiang Mai restaurant

Bossotel has a restaurant attached – it’s just on the other side of the Bossotel driveway. We enjoyed the food here and could choose from a good selection of local or western dishes. As part of your stay at Bossotel Chiang Mai, a buffet breakfast is also included. You can choose from a few local dishes, a delicious array of local fruits, juice, tea and coffee, salad bar, breads and a few western favorites like sausages, ham and eggs. There is also an egg station where they’ll cook scrambled eggs or an omelet for you on request.

The pool area and condominium

Bossotel Chiang Mai also owns a condominium, which is located at the back of the hotel. As part of your stay at Bossotel you can use the condominium pool. It’s a large pool suitable for swimming lengths, and there is also a shallow children’s pool attached. Chill out on the loungers or play a little table tennis while you’re there! There are also showers and changing rooms down at the pool area.

The lady at Bossotel Inn reception didn’t quite understand our request for a washing machine. But we worked out that there is a coin-operated washing machine (and a dryer) on the ground floor of the condominium. You can help yourself to the washing machine if you need it.

Oh and there is even a hairdresser in between the hotel and condo so Colin managed to get a much needed haircut while we were there (for 200 baht).

Bossotel Chiang Mai – What we didn’t like

Really…we had a lovely stay at Bossotel Chiang Mai. The reception team was friendly, we loved our spacious room and the pool, and our room was cleaned each day.

The only thing we’d mention here is that the restaurant had live music on each night that we were there. This would have been fantastic if we were into going out and hanging out at a bar at night. But haha we don’t do much of that, and we found the night time music was a little loud if we were trying to get to sleep. It tended to finish by midnight however.
