What’s your Irresistible Offer?…

By Colin Clapp

The title of this post comes from the title of Mark Joyner’s book “The Irresistible Offer; How to Sell Your Product or Service in 3 Seconds or Less”. (When this post was originally published back in 2009 Mark Joyner was recognised as a pioneer internet marketer and blogged at www.markjoyner.name. Since then it appears his focus has moved to productivity so now you’ll find him contributing to the subject over at Simpleology).

Now, many years later, whilst I continue to be challenged by the potential merits and pitfalls of full on internet marketing, I’m happy to confess I still like the simple concept that constitutes the elements of the Irresistible Offer. Needless to say, I would be curious to hear you’re own thoughts…

The book starts with a quick Marketing 101 reminder of four key questions our buying decisions depend on…

  • What are you trying to sell me?
  • How much will it cost me?
  • Why should I believe you?
  • And the classic, what’s in it for me?

And to answer these, all you have to do is come up with an Irresistible Offer that consists of the following:

  • A High ROI (Return On Investment) Offer: “simply offer the customer a good deal, and your job of marketing suddenly becomes a whole lot easier.”
  • A Compelling Touchstone: In essence, this is something the prospect will always remember and will positively associate with your business. It could be a slogan, a picture, a logo or whatever. But the more of the above questions it answers, the more compelling the touchstone will be. Throughout the book, Mr Joyner sites the example of Domino’s classic marketing campaign “Pizza hot and fresh to your door in 30 minutes or less… or it’s FREE” as one of the best Touchstones ever created.
  • Believability: Self explanatory really. “You simply have to prove to your prospects that you can be trusted and that your offer is not too good to be true.” (If Dominoes didn’t get your pizza to you in thirty minutes you didn’t pay!).

What do you think? Too simple? Or simply irresistible!?

To success and significance. Give. Take. Invest. Enjoy.
